Joel proudly served in the United States Army serving three tours to Vietnam and one to Germany. He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed the challenge of making things work and always had time for a good game of pool. He was a member of the St Paul Lutheran Church in Mobile.
He is preceded in death by his father, Maxwell Tennerson “Kenny” Nelson and his wife, Juliane Nelson.
He is survived by his mother, Joan Wismer and stepfather, Frank Wismer of Pascagoula, MS; a brother, Jerry “Buck” Nelson of Mobile, AL; three children, Michael Nelson of Ocean Springs, MS, Jody Nelson of Arkansas and Tina Nelson Day of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren, I great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at St Paul Lutheran Church in Mobile, AL. and burial at Biloxi National with military honors will be held at a later date. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
