UPDATED OBITUARY--JERRY FOX
Jerry Mize Fox, age 78, a resident of Calhoun City, MS, passed away to Heaven on January 14, 2021. Jerry was born on September 2, 1942, in Slate Springs, Mississippi and was member of Calhoun City First Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Prince E. Fox and the late Jimmie Ray Mize Fox.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Jean McKibben Fox; children and grandchildren, Devin Fox and wife Amelia Fox, their daughter Kylee Ray; Shannon Fox Spinks and husband Carlton and daughter, Skylar; his sisters, Marilyn Fox Sullivan, Nancy Fox Doyle, and Ellen Fox Crabb, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Kyndal Fox, grandson, Blake Fox, sister Carolyn Fox Moore, and nephew Mark Moore. Jerry was the “baby of the family” with four wonderful sisters.
Jerry graduated from Calhoun City High School and was a member of the local Army National Guard unit. After brief college, he was called up for the Bay of Pigs Invasion, which ended prior to combat service for him. Jerry and Barbara moved to San Antonio, Texas, and he began his career in management with a national retail shoe store company. With this company, they moved from San Antonio to Wichita, KS, Phoenix, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, then Nashville, TN. While a shoe store manager in Nashville, Jerry helped select shoes for country favorites such as Jeannie C. Riley, Minnie Pearl, and Dolly Parton.
Following the birth of their third child, Kyndal, they moved back to be with family and friends in their hometown of Calhoun City, MS, eventually opening a shoe store. Jerry loved to go crappie fishing in Grenada Lake, spend time with children, grandchildren and friends, play dominoes, do crossword puzzles, drink coffee, do yard work, and walk with his favorite dog, Bubba. The crappie fish fry was a frequent occurrence when family and friends were visiting in town. He maintained his close friendships throughout his life. Jerry enjoyed telling jokes and had several favorite phrases, such as “Pickles are a nickel.” and “Be alert!”.
Few people know that he could add a list of four-digit numbers in seconds, and was a trivia whiz. A favorite memory was taking his grandson, Blake, to watch Eli Manning help the Rebels win the Cotton Bowl in 2004—a gift from Barbara. Since 2013, he endured some health issues (or as he said, “a cornucopia of maladies”) that did not keep him from the activities listed above.
Jerry cherished his beloved wife, Barbara, children and grandchildren, his four sisters and their families; as well as Barbara’s sister, brother, families and friends. He will be sorely missed.

A Graveside Service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at 2:00pm at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Bro. Jim Vance will be officiating, with Bro. Chad Logan delivering the eulogy.
