Glenn W. Johnson, age 92, of Watertown, SD passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at Country View Assisted Living in Florence.

Private family services will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett officiating.

A public visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Masks are required for anyone attending.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Pallbearers will be Glenn's sons, Bill, Ken and Steve Johnson, his nephews, Gary Jongeling and Marc Johnson, and his grandson-in-law, Jason Mark.

Glenn Willard Johnson, son of Stephen and Lena Johnson was born on March 14, 1928 in Watertown, SD.

He attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1946. While attending high school, Glenn worked for Langenfeld Dairy. Shortly after graduation, his good friend, Corky Moehring and he spent over a year traveling the United States in a panel truck.

On October 2, 1949, he married Mary Ann Kruthoff at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple lived in Watertown and together they raised five sons. Glenn and Mary celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary while both in the hospital, fighting COVID.

Glenn worked for McNulty Homebuilders. He was also employed by Thorstad Construction as a general contractor and salesman for Butler Commercial Buildings. Later in life he worked in real estate. Glenn served on the City Council for 18 years.

Some of Glenn's favorite interests in life were camping, gardening, ice boating and fishing, and flying radio control airplanes that he built along with stunt kites. Glenn and Mary enjoyed traveling, with some of the most memorable trips being Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Copper Canyon in Mexico and Iceland. Glenn also enjoyed shooting archery and was a member of the Arrowhead Archery Club, attending many archery tournaments with his wife Mary and their many friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Mary; five sons, David (Joanne) of Watertown, SD, Doug (deceased), Bill (Mary) of Newton, KS, Ken (Jeanne) of Bangor, WI, and Steve (Donna) of Watertown, SD; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Phyllis Jongeling of Watertown, SD, and Harold Johnson of Carson City, NV; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Douglas Johnson, his granddaughter Amber Johnson, 8 brothers, and 3 sisters.
