She served in the Oregon House of Representatives; was a writer and photographer; and was elected to fill the vacancy in the US Senate caused by the death of her husband Richard L. Neuberger. She was reelected into that position, being only the third woman to be elected to the US Senate. Lecturer at Boston University, Radcliffe Institute, and Reed College in Portland Oregon. Author of "Smoke Screen: Tobacco and the Public Welfare" published in 1963 by Prentice-Hall.
