He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he was a licensed insurance agent and was owner of Retail Remedies and Repairs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Alise (Tucker) and Albert Newman Sanders, Sr.; brother, Albert Sanders, Jr.; and sister, Ruth Ann Colbert. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Jean (Burtner) Sanders; daughters, Debbie (Jim) Rustin, Donna (Todd) Hays, and Barb Bookout; grandchildren, Brittnee Bookout, James Rustin, Jr., Jessica Bookout, Melissa Rustin, Katie Bookout, Bailey Hays, and Tyler Hays; and brother, Bobby Gene (Betty) Sanders.
