Larry Gibson passed away at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Larry was born in Kansas City, MO on September 26, 1939. During childhood, his family lived in Chicago, Illinois and Moorhead, MN.

Larry graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, MN in 1957. During this time, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Larry attended the University of Minnesota and was a member of the Pershing Rifle Unit, a military oriented fraternal organization. In 1958, Larry met his future wife Carolyn Johnston through a blind date set up by her brother Bruce. They married April 11, 1959. Larry had joined the Army and was stationed at Malibu, CA from 1958-1961.

Larry managed 2 family-owned Mr. Donut franchises in Pittsburgh, PA and held various sales positions with Campbell’s, Nestle and Northwestern Bell Telephone. He retired from Fairchild Communication in Boone in 2015 and most recently was a valet driver for Boone County Hospital. Larry and Carolyn lived in Santa Monica, CA, Minneapolis, MN, Monroeville and Mount Lebanon, PA, Fraser, Nevada and Boone, IA.

Larry was an active member of Grace Community Church in Boone and participated in Bible Studies, prayer groups and was a Stephen Minister. He was often seen early Sunday mornings preparing and brewing the coffee. He also played the guitar in the worship team.

Larry was preceded in death by a brother Michael, his mother Mary Winnifred Gibson and his father William R. Gibson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn; a daughter Vicki Schaeffer (Brian) and a son, Kirk Gibson; grandchildren Zachary Imerman (Ana-Del), Thaddeus Imerman (Enid), Johnathan Imerman, Colton Gibson and Tara Spears; one step great-grandson, Angel Gonzalez.
