Barbara Joan Castleberry, 74, of Pine Mountain Valley passed away Monday, January 11, 2021 at her home after a hard fought battle against Multiple Myeloma.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, January 15, 2021 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rverend Bill Strandberg and Reverend Rick Lipp officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Will Castleberry, Rich Mounts, Craig Suber, Kent Williamson, Andy Castleberry, Matthew Castleberry, Justin Oliver, Tyler (Tyler T) McDaniel, Josh (Two Shoes) Tracy and Lin Mitchell serving as pallbearers.

Friends may pay their respects from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm, Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Castleberry was born October 19, 1946 in Fort Benning, GA the daughter of Joe Olander Hamby and Emma Lou Burgess Hamby. She married Malchom Castleberry on January 11, 1963 and passed away on their 58th wedding anniversary.

She was remembered by most as a childcare provider, helping to raise many children in Harris County. Mrs. Castleberry also worked with pre-k and special needs children at Park Elementary School for many years.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and sang in the church’s former gospel group, The Bethlehem Followers. Mrs. Castleberry was an extremely talented seamstress, making everything from wedding dresses to past cheerleading uniforms for Harris County High School. She was most proud of the many costumes she made for her grandchildren and numerous stage productions.

Mrs. Castleberry was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Betty Varricchio and Carolyn Wilbanks, her brother, Douglas Hamby, sister in love, Barbara Castleberry, and brother in love, Melvin Castleberry.

Survivors include her husband, Malchom of Pine Mountain Valley; her daughter, Annette Suber and her husband, Lyn of Pine Mountain Valley; her son, Bill Castleberry and his wife, Emily of Pine Mountain Valley; two brothers, David Hamby and his wife, Miriam of Pine Mountain Valley, Rodger Hamby and his wife, Betty of Hamilton; one sister in love, Matilda Castleberry of Pine Mountain Valley; one brother in love, Leonard Castleberry of Pine Mountain Valley; one sister, Wendy Madison of Tallassee, AL; five grandchildren, Jennifer Castleberry of Orlando, FL, Rich and Kasey Mounts of LaGrange, Will and Madison Castleberry of Pine Mountain Valley, Chelsea and Kent Williamson of Pine Mountain Valley and Craig Suber of Pine Mountain Valley; five great grandchildren, Trent Mounts, Trace Mounts, Lennon Mounts, Kameron Williamson and Blakeleigh Castleberry; also many nieces, nephews and countless children who were babysat, taught, loved and adored by her as her own.
