John Pickens Milam, 83, of Athens, Texas passed away peacefully on January 11, 2021. He was born on August 31, 1937 in Canton, Texas to Byron Onyx Milam and Lillie Rebecca Cox Milam; He was the youngest of six children.

John grew up in Canton, Rowlett, and Dallas, Texas.

Before John bought and sold real estate, he worked for many years at General Motors, where he retired. John enjoyed farming, playing the guitar, and telling stories; and boy could he tell some stories. When he was not “Myrtle’n around,” a phrase used by his mother in reference to her sister, Myrtle, John loved spending time with his family. John was devoted to his soul mate, Neni Hyepock. He has left an empty place in the hearts of all that knew and loved him.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Lillie Milam; his beloved wife, Wanda Sue Hammer Milam; son, Ricky Glen Milam; brothers, Garth Milam, Norris Milam, Muncie Milam and Dean Milam; and sister, Ilene Adnet.

John is survived by his soulmate, Neni Hyepock; son, Larry Dean Milam Sr. and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Brandi Jones and husband, Jason, Larry Dean Milam Jr., Ricky Glen Milam Jr., and Crystal McAllister and husband, Roy; great grandchildren, Daniel Jones, and wife Michaela, Jaxon Jones, Luke Jones, Ricky Glen Milam III “Trae” Milam, Kimberly McAllister, and Roy McAllister; step grandchildren, Karen and Donnie Rogers, Jason Jones, Justin and Kelly Trammell; six great step grandchildren; favorite sister in-law, Jane Milam; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
