Rev. William M. Cosper was a son of Rev. George Henry Cosper and Martha Elizabeth Knapp Cosper. His parents moved from Edgefield District, SC to Carroll Co., GA by 1830 and settled in Randolph Co., AL by 1840. After fighting in the Civil War for the CSA, William and numerous other Cospers migrated to Texas in 1869 on the "Cosper Wagon Train", settling on the Lampasas River by the spring of 1870.

William was married twice. This writer does not know the name of his first wife by whom he had two sons:

Columbus Henry Cosper, 1829 - 1906
William Marion Cosper, 1832 - 1863

William's second wife was Martha Clements Cosper. Based on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 US Censuses, as well as, additional family information, this is a list of their children:

Phillip Cosper, 1836 –
William Cornelius Cosper, 1838 –
George Robert Cosper, 1840 – 1915
Mary Caroline Cosper, 1842 – 1925
Prosser L. Cosper 1844, – 1915
Hampton "Hamp" Monroe Cosper, 1846 – 1934
Martha Cosper, 1848 –
Nancy P. Cosper, 1849 –

Froloney Cosper, 1857 – 1883
Millard F. Cosper, 1857 –
Daniel Cosper, 1859 –
James Cosper, 1860 –

It is noted that William had eight children listed in his household in the 1840 US Census, although they were not named individually. In numerous family trees, there is an additional daughter listed, who is not listed in the family household in 1850:

Adaline Elizabeth "Winnie" Cosper, 1838 - 1927
