Glenn Hall, and he would let you know that his name has two “n’s”, passed away in peace on December 25th with his family by his side in New Market, Alabama. Born in Jackson County, which cost his father $25, Glenn was a man of strong convictions and was one of the most direct human beings alive. If you ever had the pleasure of knowing or meeting him, then you know what is meant by this. He grew up in Big Cove with his mother, father, sister and four brothers. All were raised to use their heart, strength and soul to make the best of life in this world. He grew up knowing that hard work in the fields and swinging a hammer with his hands was what it took to grow up in the hard times of the 50s and 60s. He eventually went on to be a successful general contractor and built more than a few houses in North Alabama. Maybe you live in one that has his hammer mark on it. Glenn at one time was called one of the meanest youngins from the valley, but we all know this was just youthful rambunctiousness. To his friends and family though he was an honest, loving, devoted and funny man. His word was his bond and he never broke it even if he had a few colorful explicit words to decorate his charming dialogue. Glenn also was a lover of antique cars and trucks, loved any old stray animal that wandered into his house (or if his wife let one in) and passed his free time playing cards with his buddies. Maybe you had the pleasure of drinking coffee with him at one of the old morning hangouts around the Cove. He was a connoisseur of great hats and always wore a button downed shirt. He coordinated pants or shorts depending on his comfort level. He was a devoted family man. He loved his wife Angie, who went on to be with the Lord a few years before; and shared his abode with her and his faithful dog Rusty.
