Louis Schatte, Sr., died on April 6, 2006 at St. Mark's Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilburn Michalk on April 9, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, followed by burial in the Giddings City Cemetery.
Louis was born in Giddings to Johann and Louise Umlang Schatte on January 18, 1925. On September 21, 1947, he was married to Thelma Zoch. He was a farmer and rancher.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Giddings, 5 sons, Thomas Louis and Romayne Schatte of Salado, Louis T. Schatte Jr. of Giddings, David R. Schatte of Austin, Benjamin B. and Julie Schatte of Giddings and Kenneth D. and Lisa Schatte of California; 3 daughters, Suzanne (Zammit) and Dan Carter of Leander, Marlene Hurt of Indiana and Sharon and Gerald Birkelbach of Giddings; 15 grandchildren, Thomas Schatte, Joshua Randall Zammit, Caleb Philip Zammit, Jared Brandon Lehmann, Johathan Eric Lehmann, Ronald Duane and Quinn Schatte, Luke Andreas Schatte, Kyle Benjamin Schatte, Laura Anne Schatte, Rachel Leah (Zammit) and James Hagan, Sarah Elizabeth Hurth, Rebecca Lynn Hurt, Mikayla Blair Schatte and Jennifer Lynn (Schatte) and Keith Glona; 5 step grandchildren, Brooke and Justin Birkelbach, Avery Madyson Davis, Kelly and Ken Carter; a great grandson, Joshua Kaden Schatte of Giddings; brother, Henry and Hermina Schatte of Houston; sisters Lillian Wieder of Giddings, Marie Fritsche of Houston, Elizabeth Kappler of Giddings and Frances and Herman Gersch of Northrup.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald Wayne Schatte, brothers, Christopher A., Edwin A. and Johnny Schatte; sisters, Dorothy Schatte Wieder and Ottillie Schatte Prellop; sons-in-law, Walter Randall Zammit and Joseph Randall Hurt.
