Thomas Edwin Gibson Sr., 79, of Amherst, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was the husband of Cynthia Wright Gibson for 58 years.

Born Wednesday, December 31, 1941 in Newport News, VA, Thomas was a son the late Oscar Edwin Gibson and the late Myrtle May Cocke Gibson

In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his children, Ed Gibson and his wife, Mary, Neal Gibson and his wife Laura, and LeeAnn Lineberry her husband, Larry.

Thomas grew up in Lynchburg VA, graduating from EC Glass High school before joining the Army in 1962 and starting his life with Cynthia, the love of his life for the last 58 years. After his Service in the military Thomas and Cynthia moved back to Lynchburg to raise their children around family and friends. Thomas was always a hard worker an entrepreneur owning various small businesses in the area. He always enjoyed watching football and was a huge VA Tech and Washington Redskins fan. In his retirement Thomas still enjoyed construction projects and remodeling houses. He was very proud of his service in the US Army and a proud veteran.

A celebration of Thomas’s life will be conducted at 1:00 on Monday, January, 18, 2021 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Duane Gregory officiating. Inurnment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to American Legion Post 16.
