Edwin (Ed) Clark, age 93, of Sugar Land TX and formerly of Michigan City IN, Acton MA and Battle Creek MI passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 30, 2019.
He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Petrea Andersen Clark, parents Frank and Clara Clark, brother Frank Clark Jr., and sister Elise (Phil) Pettis. He is survived by his three children; Stephen Clark, James Clark, and Cynthia Clark Garcia. Also surviving are daughter-in-law Colleen Clark, son-in-law Arthur Garcia, six grandchildren; Nissa Clark, Katrina (Paul) Swartz, Nick Clark, Andy Garcia, Dan Garcia, Mark Garcia and one great grandchild, Andersen Swartz.
Ed grew up in Battle Creek MI where he attended public school through second grade. He transferred to the Kellogg Elementary and High schools in Gull Lake MI but returned to Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1943.
He enlisted in the Navy and was called to active duty on July1st, 1943 while attending the University of Michigan. Ed completed freshman year in February 1944 before transferring, along with half of the Mechanical Engineering students, to Marquette University. He graduated as Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in February 1946 and was commissioned Ensign at that time. Ed spent the next 90 days at the Newport Rhode Island Navel Training Center and aboard the USS Denver. He signed on for an extra year and was assigned to the Destroyer USS Joseph M. Gainard. Ed was released to inactive duty in 1947 and returned to the University of Michigan where he received a Masters degree in Business Administration in 1949.
On October 1st 1949, Ed married Petrea Ann Andersen in Battle Creek MI. They remained married until her death in 2015.
Ed worked for United Steel and Wire Company in Battle Creek before being recalled to active duty in the Navy. He was assigned to the Destroyer USS Leonard F. Mason, patrolled the Pacific for two years, achieved the rank of Lt. USNR and was released to inactive duty in 1952.
He worked for Eaton Manufacturing Company, Joy Manufacturing Company, and founded the E. Clark and Associates Manufacturers Representative firm. Ed joined F.W. Dwyer Manufacturing Company in Michigan City IN in 1966. The company name changed to Dwyer Instruments, Inc shortly thereafter. Ed started as Engineering Manager but increased his duties and responsibilities until he was Chairman and CEO. He retired in 2000, moved to Sugar Land TX in 2005 and continued as Consultant, Director and Chairman Emeritus at Dwyer until his death.
Throughout his life, Ed enjoyed sailing. He began boating as a child on Gull Lake MI, sailed ice boats in Michigan and Wisconsin, and was a formidable opponent in the racing program at the Michigan City Yacht Club.
Ed was an Eagle Scout, and served for several years as Trustee in the Congregational Church in Michigan City.
