Following his junior year at Michigan State University, Scott graduated from a six-week Marine Corps officer training program at Quantico, Virginia. He was designated Honorman of his training unit during graduation ceremonies at the Marine Corp Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in recognition of his superior leadership, initiative, and military bearing. Scott was proud to have served in the Marines as he was the 4th member of his family to join, following his father Neil Poland. After the marines, he worked in security for many famous musicians and then established a career in the Texas oil business.
He raced motorcycles for a hobby which he competed for over five years in the Texas Mile and ran 236.97 in the Loring. He always said he had the best mentor, Terry Kizer, 9 time NHRA drag champion on bikes whom Scott said was a great builder and teacher.
Scott had a passion for living life to its fullest and was an excellent marksman in firearms and also bow hunting. His knowledge in both were genius sharing his ideas and suggestions to many and always wanting to help someone achieve their very best. In politics he was a proud Republican willing to hear and discuss his ideals. Scott was predominantly of Irish descent from his father and German from his mother.
He leaves behind his loving wife Heather, a daughter and two sons, his brother Stephen Russell Poland of Tennesee and his nephew Jacob Poland. He leaves an abundance of cousins, aunts and family who dearly love him, from all over the United States and Germany.
