Vivian Carleston

Vivian Carleston was born in Navasota, TX July 8, 1914 and died April 12, 2006 in Giddings, TX. She married Herbert Carleston in Navasota August 25, 1932. She is reunited with him, who died March 16, 1957 and with her parents, George and Olivia Allen, with her brothers and sisters in-law Martin and Nellodyne Allen, Algie and Arminda Allen, Wilson and Berta Allen and her sisters and brothers in-law Georgia and Ewing Prescott, Hattie Lois and Wesley McGee, Lorine and Theodore Melton, Juanita and Hannibal Wilson. She is also reunited with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Parthenia and Eugene McGuire, Milton and Bessie Carleston, Margarete and Harold Fairchild, and Russell Carleston.
She is survived by her sons and their wives Herbert and Joyce Carleston of Giddings and John Allen and Helen Carleston of Louise, Grandchildren and their spouses Debra and Ivan Townsend (their children Tanya and Tana) of Louise, Tx, Kimberly and Seth Glattstein (their children Megan and Max) of Duxbury, Ma, Cynthia and Stanley Blaha (their children Clinton and Caydi) of El Campo, Tx, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Vivian was an active member of First Baptist Church in Giddings for many years after moving to Giddings in 1937 and after retirement. She and her friend Mrs. Hesterly organized the Women's Missionary Union in 1937 and served as its President for several years. She served the church in many capacities. She was a Sunday school and Training Union teacher and The Girl's Auxiliary leader. She left Giddings to find employment after the death of her husband in 1957. She was a House Mother at Mary Harden Baylor University, caregiver to several families and their children in Austin and Houston, TX. She was a companion to Mrs. Jessie Crowell in Louise, Tx and to Mrs. Carothers in Houston, TX. She returned to Giddings in 1978. At this time she started a Sunday morning Bible Study at Giddings Healthcare Center where it is still being offered to their residents. She served as President of Giddings Senior Citizens Organization for several years until she had to give it up for health reasons.
She was devoted to visiting the elderly and ill and will be remembered for her famous "custard" and "bread pudding" that she loved to make for her family and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to State and Foreign Missions through the First Baptist Church, Giddings, Tx.
Her life was celebrated at the First Baptist Church, Giddings, Tx. Interment was at the Navasota City Cemetery April 15, 2006.
