Lori Gayle (Munn) Burns, 64, of Cortland, passed away unexpectedly on February 11, 2020. Lori was born on March 28, 1955 in Cortland, the daughter of the late Gordon "Dale" Munn (Beepa) and Mary (Rosser) Munn (Geeka). A graduate of Cortland High School, Lori went on to get her nursing degree and make her career as a registered nurse. She began her nursing career in labor and delivery. She loved delivering and caring for babies. Lori then spent almost 20 years working as a student health nurse at SUNY Cortland. Shortly after her start there, Lori became certified in disaster relief services through the Red Cross and was called to spend several weeks in NYC to provide support and care for the survivors and families of victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11th. Lori was a parishioner at St. Margaret's Church, a church that meant so much to her. One of her greatest enjoyments at the church was serving as a Lector, proclaiming the various readings on Sundays. When not reading at church, Lori was also a member of a book club. Lori was also an excellent athlete and graduated as Cortland High School Class of 1973 Outstanding Female Athlete. She was very passionate about politics. Of all the wonderful things that made her who she was, being a grandmother was her favorite or as her grandchildren call her, Petey. Lori loved her eight grandchildren and was ecstatic for the arrival of her ninth, due in June. She is survived by her husband of 43 years John Burns; her children Alissa (Felix) Medero, Casey (Katlyn Jennings) Burns, and Brittany (Kyle) McCown; her siblings Gil Munn, Brett (Peggy) Munn, and April (John) Calale; her grandchildren, Noon, Liam, Matthew, Natalie, Kaya, Sophie, Ophelia and Keegan; and many cousins and beloved friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Sherrye Cook. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 18th from 4 to 7 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at 11 AM, at St. Margaret's Church of Homer with Fr. Paul Alcioti serving as Celebrant. Burial will be private. A celebration of Lori's life for family and friends will be held after the funeral at the St. Charles at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
