Mr. Burgess was the son of the late Leon R. and Anna V. Haddaway Burgess. He graduated in 1957 from St. Michaels High School.
Mr. Burgess was a US Navy veteran and was proud to have served his country. He had served on the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. and was in the MD National Guard for a year and a half. He married the former Alice Unsworth on April 19, 1974.
Dale loved music. He had a set of harmonicas in different keys that he played in church or at music gatherings. He enjoyed word seek puzzles and going out to eat. He was very outgoing – “He never met a man he didn’t like”.
Dale is survived by his wife of 46 years, Alice Burgess of Greensboro; a son, Dale Burgess, Jr.; three nieces: Crystal Marie Pierce McKinnon of Chester, Marti Burgess young and husband Roni of Tennessee, and Anna Burgess Woodward and husband Josh of Secretary; a nephew, Michael L. Burgess and wife Sherri of Bridgeville, DE; a great nephew, Sgt. Joshua Bridges and wife Grace of Tennessee, and a great niece, Krystyne M. Young and companion Austin of Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, Troy, and a brother, Glenn Burgess.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 on Sunday, January 17th, at the Denton Church of the Nazarene. The interment will be private at the MD Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
