William Walton, Jr.
June 27,1924 - January 9, 2021

William "Bill" Walton was born and grew up in Oakman, Alabama. He was the youngest child of Amanda Rhea Walton and William Walton. Bill had two sisters, Eunice and Lou. His parents and his sisters were very special to him.

After he graduated from high school, Bill worked in his father's grocery store before enlisting in the army during World War II at age nineteen. Bill became a paratrooper and fought in the battle of Corregidor in the Philippines, as well as battles and campaigns in New Guinea and Luzon. An army sergeant, he received a purple heart after he was wounded in battle.

Bill graduated from the University of Alabama and remained a loyal Alabama football fan his entire life. He met the love of his life, George Brown, when he was working in Birmingham, Alabama. Three months later, Bill and George married and enjoyed sixty-one years together. They had one daughter, Gage Walton Martin.

Bill worked for many years for General American Transportation Corporation, first in Chicago, then New York, and later in Houston. He joined Richmond Tank Car Company in the late 1970s and worked there until he retired. He traveled to many places during his career including countries in the Soviet Bloc.

Bill volunteered as a nursing home minister in his retirement. He always showed others kindness. Love and strength are what Bill gave his family everyday. Now Bill is home with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gage and Michael Martin; his adored grandchildren, Blair Martin and Walton-Gray Martin; his nieces, Loretta Davidson and Mary Buzbee, and his great-niece, Karen Johnson.
