Paul Edward Carpenter, age 60, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born January 31, 1960 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his father, Larry Lynn Carpenter, brother, Carlos Lynn Carpenter, paternal grandparents, Leon & Marie Carpenter, and maternal grandparents, Reginald (Buck) & Elsie Bonnette.

Paul, fondly known as “Edderd” by friends and family, spent the most recent ten years of his career with SixC as Project Manager. Prior to that, he saw many parts of the country and made countless friends working as a welder for 30 years. Mid-career, he returned to school and obtained a Bachelor of Education degree at NSU and coached baseball at WSHS. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying boating, riding his Harley, fishing, and hunting deer and ducks. He was also an exceptional athlete his entire life, excelling at every sport he attempted. He was a high-scoring basketball long shooter, an All-Star baseball player, and a heavy hitting slow pitch softball competitor for many years with numerous teams, including the Rebels and his NSU Intramural team. Paul picked up golf in recent years and played weekly at Pine Ridge Country club. He also competed around the Gulf Coast region with his team as part of the Louisiana Amateur Golf Tour. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and shared his recliner with beloved dogs through the years, especially Camo and Meaux Jo. He was a gifted, funny storyteller and will be fondly remembered for sharing everyday life stories in a way that always brought laughter to those around him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 18 years, Leah Hanson Carpenter, Mother, Patsy Carpenter Lester & David, son, Kyle Michael Carpenter (Kari), sisters, Lisa Carpenter and Pennie Erskins, grandchildren, Baylee, Emerson, and River Paul. He also leaves behind many special extended family members including in-laws, J.T. and Martha Hanson, sister-in-law, Alissa Hammons (Chip) and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Southern Funeral Home, 5:00-8:00 p.m., and a celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Calvin, 2nd Street, Calvin, LA, at 11:00 a.m., with Bro. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Interment will be at Sanders Cemetery.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Kyle Carpenter, Chris Leeper, Mike “Ox” Leeper, Brad Jordan, Johnny Williams, Jeremy Moore, Dillon McCartney, Lance Gardner, Scott Cannerday, Troy Carpenter, and Honorary pallbearers, David Lester and J.T. Hanson.
