MACKINAW - Dale E. Abbott, 83, of Mackinaw, Ill., died at 5:04 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Dale was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Bloomington to Fred and Ester Harman Abbott. He married Margaret Anderson. She preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one daughter.
Dale later married Louise Allen Hasty. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Peggy (Tom) Daab of Morton and Kathy Abbott of Dallas, Texas; one son, Gary (Amanda) Abbott of Quincy; two stepsons, Alan (Laurie) Hasty of East Peoria and Bob (Rita Pulling) Hasty of Summerville, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Patsy (Larry) VanDyke of Mackinaw; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lynn (Ruth) Abbott of Normal and Robert Abbott of Danvers.
Dale was an Army veteran with Merrills Marauders during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star.
Dale was a manager at Mackinaw IGA for more than 30 years.
He was a member of Mackinaw Christian Church, Mackinaw American Legion Post 607 and Mackinaw Young at Heart Club.
Dale was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing with his family and attending his children's and grandchildren's sports activities.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at the Mackinaw Christian Church. The Rev. Kevin Robbins will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at his church. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Danvers with military rites provided by Mackinaw American Legion Post 607.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials may be made to the Mackinaw Recreation Program or his church.
