Donald Eugene Gibson of Tequesta, Florida, and Paragould, Arkansas, passed away in Little Rock on December 20, 2020, surrounded by loving family. He died at 62 of complications from a stem cell transplant. He is mourned by his wife, Ann Rene Jacobs; his brothers Ray (Lorene), Bruce, and Brett (Jamie); his sisters Rebecca (Harold), Carolyn (Jerry), and Rayanna; his brother-in-law Howard (Emeline) Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews he adored. Don was born in Kennett, MO, to Elton Ray and Evelyn Gibson, both of whom predeceased him, and grew up in Marmaduke, AR. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he went on to a distinguished 32-year career with the State Department and the Department of Defense, where he was promoted into senior leadership. He was a gifted analyst who befriended, mentored, and inspired colleagues throughout his career. Few accomplished as much; no one worked harder. His job took him around the world; he lived in a handful of countries and served in dozens more. However, no place was more important to him than his home, and no one more important than his family. His best-loved moments involved watching the birds and deer on his farm, serving fine food to friends and family on the porch, and sharing great stories. Don had a generous spirit, and in these times of hardship for so many, the family suggests that any memorials be directed to neighbors in need. A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, at Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery with Kim Bridges officiating.
