Vivian Daniel died on July 6 at the age of 90. She was born in 1927 in Lincoln Parish, La to Grady and Myrtis Colvin. She grew up in Ruston La and graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Secretarial Science. After graduating, she moved to Baton Rouge, LA where she worked as a secretary in the Louisiana State Department of Education.
While living and working in Baton Rouge, she met her future husband, John I. Daniel III, on a blind date. They married on July 31, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. Once he was commissioned as an officer and pilot in the US Air Force, she joined him in support of his 30 year military career. Vivian moved with John to many Air Force bases across the US and Europe, while they traveled the world and raised their family of four children. Their military life led them to live in San Antonio, TX; Pontlevoy, France; Frankfurt, Germany; Amarillo, Texas; Trier, Germany; and, Huntingdon, England (near Cambridge).
Living in Europe just a few years after World War II required creativity and tenacity, and Vivian became adept at making a home for her young family. After they returned a second time to the US, they lived in Stillwater, OK; Newport News, VA; Topeka, KS; and Hampton, VA. In 1972, they returned to Baton Rouge. In Baton Rouge, Vivian assisted John in his role as Commandant of Cadets at LSU by hosting parties for the LSU ROTC students. She enjoyed being back in her home state.
Vivian learned to play bridge on their first military assignment, and this became a passion of hers throughout her life. She hosted many bridge parties and enjoyed friendships with the people they met through bridge. She was a longtime member of both St. John's United Methodist Church and the Baton Rouge AQ chapter of P.E.O.
When John developed Parkinson's disease, Vivian was a devoted caretaker to him, until his death in 1994. She did the same for her mother, who died in 1990. In 2007, Vivian moved to St. James Retirement Community. She enjoyed her time there with many friends, lots of bridge games, and other activities. She was happy that her daughter Sharon lived nearby and visited often; this was especially important during the final years of Sharon's life.
Vivian will be remembered for her gentle and kind spirit, her beautiful style and charm, and her love of family.

She is also survived by sister-in-law Sue Daniel Kruse and husband Reinhard (Philadelphia, PA); and two nephews: DeVon Colvin and wife Griselda; and Gary Colvin and wife Jeanette.
A memorial service will be held on July 11 at 10:30 am at St. James Place Retirement Community, Convocation Room, with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held.
