Carol A. Byers, 77 of Sloan, Iowa passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family. Memorial Services will be held 10:30am Wednesday, January 13, at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Carol Ann Byers was born February 1, 1943 in Portland, Oregon the daughter of Marvin and C. Bernice (Ruhd) Nelson. She graduated from Central High School in 1961. On December 22, 1984 she married Fred Byers in Sloan, Iowa. Carol worked at several places including the Lighthouse Marina in Whiting, the Lazy W in Sloan and at the Sloan Golf Course.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, and being with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing crossword puzzles. Carol loved her dogs Ruby Otto and Benji, and her cat Charlie.
Carol is survived by her children; LeAnn (Robert) Resendiz of Byron, MN, Jeffrey (Julie) Reitan of Whiting, Steven (Sheila) of Manning, IA, Teresa (Stan) Jans of Dakota City, NE, Vicki (Bryan) Kron of Whiting, Derek (Fawn) Byers of Onawa, one brother, Pat Nelson of Sioux City, two sister-in-laws, Susan (Ron) White and Margie Fargo-Simmons, 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and along with many nieces, nephews and her best friend Dee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred in 2012, and one brother, Gary Nelson.
