George, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021, at Laurels of Mt Pleasant.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant or charity of the donor’s choice.

George was the son of Marcus and Veda (Grim) Jennings. George married Josephine Brown on December 23, 1956 in Napoleon, Ohio. He was a graduate of Ohio State University and earned his master’s degree from Michigan State University. George served as a university administrator for Central Michigan University for 21 years.

Following retirement, he taught communications class at Mid-Michigan Community College. George had several hobbies; he was most passionate about radio-controlled model airplanes. He produced designs and kitted them to ship throughout the United States. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Model Aircraft Club. George also enjoyed building model railroads. Following retirement, George obtained his pilots license and built his own airplane. He was a self-taught button accordion player and liked to volunteer his time entertaining at the local senior citizen centers. He played for the October and December buffets at Chef Hermann’s European Café in Cadillac for 25 years. George was a member of the Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church for many years.

George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jo Jennings; his children Douglas Jennings, Elizabeth Jennings, and Robert Jennings (Simone); grandchildren Brandon Crapo, Theodore Crapo, and Ashley (Michael) Conn; great-grandchildren Landyn, Payton Marie, and Harper Josephine.

George was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard.
