Merlene was born July 12, 1936 in Elmer, Oklahoma to James Leslie and Maggie (Donaghe) Allen. She married Billy Emerson on June 12, 1954. She was a graduate of Southside School in Elmer, Oklahoma and worked for the Altus Times Democrat Newspaper until her retirement in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; her brother Wendell Allen.
Merlene is survived by one son, Bruce and his wife Lesa of Vernon; sister-in-law, Patsy Allen of Enid, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Judy of Enid, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Donnie and Freddie of Enid, Oklahoma; numerous other family and friends.
