Billy J. Baird, 81, of Topeka formerly of Silver Lake, KS died Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Rossville, KS. He was born on January 23, 1930 in Queen City, TX, the son of Browder J. and Nannie Logan Baird.

Billy served in the United States Army from 1948 until his retirement in 1968. He later worked at Payless Cashways. He attended Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Topeka.

Billy married Margie Ann Fitzgerald on December 22, 1967 in Denver, CO. She survives.

He is also survived by his children, Edward Baird of Denver, CO, Bill Baird of Topeka, KS and Matt Kiene of Los Angeles, CA; his sisters, Marguerite Elrod and Jane Emerson and 10 grandchildren.

Billy was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Gale Duer; a sister and 9 brothers.

Mr. Baird was cremated. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Mother Teresa Catholic Church in Topeka. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with visitation to follow at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS.
