Doris Jewel Emerson, 95, departed her earthly home on January 5, 2021.

Doris was born on July 15, 1925 in Berryville, Arkansas, to Baden and Kathleen Bare. Following the deaths of her parents, she and her siblings were placed in an orphanage. Doris, along with her sister and brother, was adopted by Lyle and Ruby Leese of Monett, Missouri. She met her beloved husband, Don, in Fort Worth at the wedding of her best friend, Katy to C.V. Hardaway, Don's cousin. Six months later Doris and Don were married on September 6, 1947.

Doris graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing-Springfield, Missouri in 1946 and began her career as a RN. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital and Cook's Children Hospital in Fort Worth. Later she became the school nurse for the Keller ISD until her retirement. In the mid-seventies, she returned to school and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. Later Doris continued to work part time as an Occupational Health Nurse for American Airlines and Bell Helicopter.

Doris treasured the moments she spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her friends and extended family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Doris was a charter member of Browning Heights Presbyterian Church in Haltom City, She loved the people of this congregation and was active in Bible Study classes and Friday Game Night. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Bass Hall and N.E.E.D. Doris was caring, devoted and compassionate and was ready to help wherever she could.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Donald C. Emerson; her sister, Margaret Blue; and her brother, C.E. Leese.

Doris is survived by her son, David C. Emerson and his wife, Debbie; daughter, Margaret D. Lerma and her husband, Rey; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie and Jason Russell, Michael and Jennifer Emerson, Kim and Evan Reed; 7 great grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew and Olivia Russell, Aubrey and Ethan Reed, Joshua and Matthew Emerson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County; Presbyterian Night Shelter or N.E.E.D.
