Troy Lee Gregory, 65 years of age, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, January 7th, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington following a short illness.

Troy was born in Stanford, Kentucky on August 25th, 1955, son of the late Chester Albert “Check” Gregory and Bernice Ard Gregory. Troy was a 1973 graduate of Somerset High School and attended Somerset Community College. He had a lifelong love of dogs with many special pets in his life, including Red, Katie, Gretchen, Anna, Rue, Gizmo, and Nellie. He was an outdoor recreation enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating, as well as card games, classic cars, and science fiction shows and movies, especially Star Trek.

Troy was survived by one son, Mark Allen Gregory (and Kathy Adams) of Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters, Amy Beth (and Russ) Strunk of Science Hill, Kentucky and Lindsey Madison Gregory (and Kyle West) of Lexington, Kentucky; one step-son, Arron Thomas Tilley (and Jenn Kish) of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter, Cadence Ember Garland of Science Hill, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Albert “Check” Gregory, who departed this life on November 5th, 1998 and Bernice Ard Gregory, who departed this life on January 23rd, 2015; his wife, Michelle Gregory; and one brother, Chester B. "C.B." Gregory, who departed this life on July 13th, 2018.

Troy studied piano for ten years and was a talented pianist, often playing his parents’ favorite songs for gatherings at their home. He also enjoyed sports and coached a women’s softball team "The Peanuts Gang", at Roney Park in Eubank, Kentucky for several years. He also played for and coached men’s softball and was later involved in youth sports with his son.

Troy had many fond memories from his first job as a cook at Somerset Pizza Hut. He also worked for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Social Services, with his father in the HVAC business, for the Commonwealth Journal circulation department as a driver, then obtained his CDL license and drove a semi-truck for a period of time. He was proficient in many trade skills and auto mechanics. He had been a member and formerly held numerous positions at Duke Memorial Baptist Church where he was especially involved in activities for the senior members of the Church and the youth choir. Troy was outgoing and seldom met a stranger. He could always find something to talk about, laughed easily, and enjoyed pulling pranks and telling tall tales with his family members and friends.

Private graveside services were held on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021 in the Oak Hill Church Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.

The Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky was in charge of the arrangements for Troy.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF TROY,

1 Thessalonians 4. 16-18
(King James Version)

16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
