BARNEVELD,NY/ORMOND BEACH, FL - Howard Turner, age 101, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2020 in Ormond Beach, FL.
The son of Arthur and Clara Turner, he was born on March 31, 1919. Howard grew up and was educated in Mohawk, NY. He furthered his education at the Utica School of Commerce.
Howard proudly served in the US Army during World War II. While in the Army, he married Marjorie Runge, a loving marriage that lasted more than 65 years. Following the end of the war, Howard and Marge relocated to Barneveld, NY. Howard was the owner/operator of Turner Lumber Co., Barneveld, NY, overseeing operations until his retirement in 1986.
While residing in Barneveld, Howard served the Barneveld Fire Department for many years. He served as Assistant Chief throughout the 1950's and 1960's. Additionally, Howard also served as the Town of Trenton Supervisor for several years.
After retiring, Howard and Marge enjoyed spending time at their camp on White Lake, Woodgate, NY, cruising the lake in their Boston Whaler, watching the grandkids jump off the dock and just watching the boats go by. He also served on the Board of Directors of the White Lake Association for many years. They spent their winters in Ormond Beach, FL, enjoying the warm Florida weather.
Howard was predeceased by Marjorie in 2012.
He is survived by his present wife, Joy; son, Thomas (Ann) Turner, Remsen, NY; daughter, Nancy (Fred) Looney, Falmouth, MA; son, James (Shelia) Turner, Honeoye Falls, NY; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Nicholas, Christine and Joshua.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be next to Marjorie at the Evergreen Cemetery, Barneveld, NY.
