Steven G. Phillips, age 72, of Canal Winchester, Ohio died January 5, 2021 peacefully at his son’s home. He was born on November 25, 1948 in Richwood, West Virginia, the son of Garland and Bernice Phillips. Steven is survived by his three children, Ami (Matt) Stewart, Steven Phillips, Jr. and Sara (Josh) Phillips; grandchildren, Hope & Cole Stewart and Emily Phillips; mother, Bernice Phillips; siblings, Kathy (Mickey) Schwinne and Kimberly (Randy) Balling; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Garland Phillips; former wife and mother of their three children, Kathy Weaver; and sister, Sharon Carter. As a young man, Steven worked for the Transportation Department alongside his then father-in-law at The Ohio State University. He went on to become a semi-truck driver for Cottingham Paper Company. Steven then served as a police officer for several years in the City of Kirkersville, as well as, Columbus State Community College. He also took a part-time position as a Starter at National Trails Raceway to satisfy his passion for cars and then ended his work history at Jegs Automotive working in various positions. Steven loved car shows, car races, muscle cars and classic cars! He once owned a 1940 Pontiac Coupe he fondly named “The Iron Indian.” He also enjoyed collecting old coins and gifting them to his children and grandchildren. A Memorial Gathering will take place on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society, 5464 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
