Joan Marie Rhodes, 68, of Sterling Colorado passed away peacefully Thursday, January 7, 2021 surrounded by her family in Sterling, CO. Memorial Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the Berean Church, with Pastor Dan Holsten officiating. Joan, daughter of Albert and Pearl Henkel, was born November 17th, 1952 in Syracuse, KS. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Nebraska. During her youth she enjoyed tap dancing, riding her horse, and shopping. Joan attended Crawford High School while working in her family’s restaurant where she waitressed. This is where she met her husband, Lee Rhodes.

Joan married Lee Rhodes, September 11th, 1969 in Crook, CO. They were married 51 years. After Lee was drafted into the United States Army, the couple moved to Fort Riley, KS. Later on, Joan and son Wade, moved to Frankfurt, Germany to join Lee where they lived for just under one year prior to moving home and raising their family. They raised four children together. Joan loved attending her children’s sporting events as well as all her grandchildren’s activities. Joan enjoyed coaching her daughters’ “Tower Annex” softball teams. Coaching her girls was one of favorite topics of conversation as well as some of her fondest memories. Joan touched many lives and her children’s friends were all considered her “kids” and were like family to her. Joan was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, bowling, baking, reading, doing puzzles with her grandchildren, and traveling prior to her illness.

Joan is survived by her husband Lee Rhodes, son Wade Rhodes, of Sterling. Daughters Angela Mills (husband Aaron) of Pierce, CO, Brenda Gertner-Miller (husband Clay), and Connie Japp (husband Jeff) all of Sterling, CO. Grandchildren, Dara Rhodes, Brenna Adams, Jaedon Mills, Andrew Rhodes, Taylor Gareis, Mitchell Gertner, Logan Mills, Carson Gareis, Mason Gertner, Brody Mills, Harley Gareis, Kenny Rhodes, Brooklynn Japp, and Austin Japp; her brother Albert Henkel (wife Janice), sister Christena Dykes. Joan had 4 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, mother in law Dorothy Rhodes, son in law Tim Gertner, sister Eleanor Lemmon, and numerous aunts and uncles.
