Helen was born January 31, 1904 to Thomas and Katherine (Keegan) Manville in Ironton, Wis. She married Lawrence Milfred on January 24, 1923 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironton. This marriage was blessed with five children. Helen and Larry farmed for 60 years in the Cazenovia area.
A life-long Catholic, Helen was a member of St. Anthony's Parish in Germantown. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the St. Anthony's Alar Society. Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She took great price in all of her family and in her Irish heritage. She loved nature and particularly birds, flowers and gardening. A talented seamstress and quilter, Helen was also a wonderful letterwriter who carried on a correspondence with many relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence on September 8, 1991, her parents, three brothers, and five sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Peter of Cazenovia, and Clarence (Ann) of Stevens Point; three daughters, Kathleen (Ernest) Cornwall of Scottsdale, Ariz., Patricia (Mitchell) Smith of Lake Geneva, and Bonnie Pickett of La Crosse; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jessica Ganley of Oak Lawn, Ill., and Isabel Scallon of Fond du Lac; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 20, 1996 at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Father Dan Kiedinger officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Farber Chapel in Cazenovia. The American Legion Auxiliary Service will be conducted at 5 p.m. and a parish rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.
