HON. JAMES BARRY, Pepin, was born in County Derry, Ireland, in March, 1812. His father, William Barry, and his mother, Elizabeth, (Duncan) Barry, were both of Scotch parentage.

He came to the United States in 1828, and went to Pittsburgh, Pa. He learned there the trade of wagon making. He continued to reside there until 1856, when he came to Pepin, and the next year moved his family here.

He was married, Jan. 22, 1836, to Miss Elizabeth Porter, of Pittsburgh, Pa. They have five children-Eliza (Mrs. John McCain) of Lakeport; William, in Montana; Anna, Amanda, Mrs. Solomon Fuller, James H.

Mr. Barry was Justice of the Peace in Pittsburgh, Pa. Has been Chairman of the Town Board of Pepin three years, and member of the County Board of Supervisors; also member of the Assembly in 1879.

He is a member of the United Presbyterian Church.
