Lorraine married Thelma Louise (Smith) Stirnitzke on 14 Feb 1970 in Grant Co., Ind.

Lorraine Carlyle Phillips, 102, was born on September 15, 1918, in Marion. He lived on the family farm in Converse. He passed away on December 31, 2020.

Carlyle graduated from Swayzee High School in 1936 and went on to graduate from International Business College in Fort Wayne in 1940. He joined the military during WWII to serve his country in the Army Air Corp. He was proud to learn his grandson, CMSGT Chad Ream USAF and family, are stationed in the same area.

After his tour of duty, he began working at Henderson Farm Equipment until 1952. He left Henderson Farm Equipment to farm the family farm until age 65, when he retired. He loved farming and his farming community. Carlyle never met a stranger and would lend a helping hand to anyone.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Converse since 1928. Almost every minister said they would like to grow up to be like him. He had been a member of the Converse Lions Club since 1966. He enjoyed recruiting new members and helping with the many activities of the club. He never missed a meeting until 2020 when he was physically unable to attend.

After 102 years on this earth, God has surely prepared that beautiful farm in heaven for Carlyle. He will be deeply missed.

Carlyle was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Stirnitzke Phillips; parents, Charley and Myrtle (Rich) Phillips; brother, Dewayne Phillips; sister-in-law, Betty Phillips; and daughters, Diane Pantalone and Cheryl Kidwell.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Dozier of Loveland, OH, Pamela Biagini of Clearwater, FL, and Connie Burt of Marion; his first wife, Marjorie Danner Phillips; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Carlyle had a special bond with his nephew, Tom Phillips, who was more like a son to Carlyle. He was always a great support and help.

A graveside service will take place at Converse Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
