"Samuel was born March 5, 1930 in Richmond, CA to Theodore and Anna "Genieve" Anderson. The family moved to Woodburn, OR when he was 12.
"He found a passion for flying at a young age, learning to fly from a crop dusting strip, and received his pilot's license before his driver's license. He loved the freedom he found in the air and was happiest when flying a Cessna plane. He graduated from Woodburn High School in 1948 and in 1952 he married a high school classmate, Arlene Becker. They were soon joined by a son, Gary, who was then followed by son, David.
"Samuel could fly by instrument reading even in heavy fog. This accomplished piloting skill enabled an entrepreneurial drive. In 1955 he and five others formed the Salem Yellow Cab Company. He also owned Samax Car Wash in Woodburn and for a few years, Albany Yellow Cab. He also found time to serve his country by joining the Oregon National Guard.
"Samuel and Arlene eventually moved to West Salem, and later Keizer, then back to West Salem creating many happy memories before her passing. Samuel later found comfort in his new found friend and wife, Margaret Zastoupil. They had many travels and adventures together, including New Zealand, Mexico, and Hawaii.
"Samuel will be greeted at his new destination by his wives, Arlene and Margaret; his loving parents; brother, Walter; and son, David. Those who he will be watching over are his brother, Roland; son, Gary (Crystal) Anderson; brother in law, John (Kris) McGonegal; grandchildren, Daniel, Sam, Katie, and Dustin; and any pilot caught in the fog.
