Ted Joe Smith, 89, of Disputanta passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021. Born in the Crabtree Section of Haywood County, North Carolina on May 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Hubert and Myrtle MeHaffey Smith, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Smith; daughter, Nancy S. Bollinger (Johnny); and siblings, Clyde L. Smith, Robert Smith, Carrol Smith. A retired Chief Warrant Officer 2, Ted served his beloved country for 23 years in the United States Army. After retiring from the Army, he became a real estate broker, owning his own brokerage. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed the tranquility of fishing and hunting. He is survived by his grandson, Brian Bollinger; two great-granddaughters, Nancy Ella and Katy May Frances Bollinger; sisters, Barbara Henry, Doris Little; and other extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes, 103 S. Adams Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Parrish, 8211 Prince George Dr, Disputanta, VA 23842 or Faith Baptist Church, 5501 Middle Rd, Prince George, VA 23875.
