Memorial services for Stephen B. Davis, 63 of Lawrence, KS will be held on January 15, 2021 at 11:00 am at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Steve passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife of 38 years and his children.
Steve was born on January 28, 1957 in Neenah, Wisconsin, the son of Dean and Jeri (Day) Davis. He was the second of four children.
Steve spent many years using his outgoing personality to build a successful career as a salesman. Steve never knew a stranger and all of his clients were an extension of his family. When he wasn’t spending his time driving around the city meeting with his clients, he spent his free time at the golf course. Golf was truly his happy place and he was extremely passionate about the game of golf. His lifelong dream was to hit a hole in one. He married Penny Elizabeth Gatewood on June 18, 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Packing up his beloved Jeep with Penny and driving across the country to marry the love his life was one of his very favorite stories to share. Steve and Penny had a love that most could only hope to have. They shared that love with their children Megan and Jon, and their grandbabies.
Steve was an extremely proud father but would never miss a chance to embarrass his kids. While it was embarrassing at the time, it left lasting and loving memories for Megan and Jon. He was always proud to announce to anyone that would listen the accomplishments of his children.
Becoming a Papa was something Steve cherished. All five of his grandchildren were loved beyond measure and filled his heart with extreme joy. They all had a special bond with him that will never be broken. Steve was met in heaven by those that he loved who preceded him in death. His mother Jeri, sister Cindy, and his many grandparents.
Other survivors include his father, Dean and wife Carole of Spring Hill, KS; Daughter, Megan and husband Scott of Eudora; son, Jonathan and wife Melissa of Lenexa; sister, Becky and husband John of Overland Park; brother Greg of Guam; sister-in-law, Julie and partner David of Overland Park; five grandchildren, Maci, Autumn, Davis, Emery and Esmeralda; and numerous, nieces and nephews.
