He was born in Columbus County, NC on September 16, 1932.
J.C. was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Lane Strickland; his parents, Charlie Strickland and Alice Jenkins-Strickland; three brothers: Boyd Strickland, Dennis Strickland, and Donnie Faye Strickland; three sisters: Pauline Strickland, Irene Brown, and Eula Dudney; and a son-in-law, Stephen Kelly Jernigan.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Lynn Strickland and fiancée Jan Cox and Richard Keith Strickland and wife Paula, all of Lumberton, NC; two daughters, Joye Marie Jernigan of Bladenboro, NC and Rhonda Kay Wilkins and husband Kenneth of Inman, SC; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Lewis of Whiteville, NC.
A graveside service will be held at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.
