Robert Walter Hammond entered into eternal rest at the age of 85 on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 6:45 pm. He was born November 10, 1935 in Kokomo, MS, to the union of his late parents, Frank Hammond and Normie Manning. Loving father of Doris Penn of Abita Springs, Sylvia Scott of Franklinton, Loretta Hammond of New Orleans, Larry Hammond of Covington, Lesperune Hammond of Baton Rouge, and Robert Hammond, Jr. of New Orleans. Devoted grandfather and uncle to a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Loving brother of Betty Pugh of New Orleans. Robert is preceded in death by his beloved late wife, Amanda Bell Kelly Hammond; his sons, Lesperance Hammond and Joshua Hammond; his brother, Earl Hammond and his sisters, Linda Lopeace, Mary Ann Hammond, Barbara Ann Hammond, Odera Alexander and Patricia Hammond. A hard worker, Robert worked several jobs around Covington, LA to take care of his family. He had a passion for fishing; you could always find him on the banks of the water with his fishing pole. Robert was also always known as a sharp dresser. In June of 1991, he met his friend Yvonne Clark; she was there for him until the end. He moved to New Orleans and joined the Franklin Ave. Baptist Church, and was baptized in 1991 by Rev. Fred Luter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life at Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Hwy 36, Covington, LA, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 1:30 pm with Visitation beginning at 11:30 am. Interment following at Abita Springs Cemetery #2, LA. To Ms. Yvonne Clark, we appreciate everything you have done over the years for our father, Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts.
