Fred Monroe Powers, 68, of Mack Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Born on March 8, 1952, he was the son of the late Clarence and Virginia Gertrude Hall Powers. He was a member of the Mt. Herman Baptist Church and was a retired coal miner and teacher. He was a graduate of Northfork High School and Bluefield State College and received his Master’s degree from Marshall University. He was a story teller and was a member of the WV Story Telling Guild, the WV Writers and the Bluewell Lions Club. His personal website can be viewed at www.powerhousepowers.com. He loved the family fishing trips and spending the winters in Florida. He loved meeting new people and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Neal Powers of the home; daughter, Kerri Powers of Bluefield, WV; sons, Dr. Jeremy (Jennifer) Powers and Canton, MI, and Christopher (Andrea) Powers of Huntington, WV; and 5 grandchildren, Aaron Powers, Amanda Powers, Brennon Powers, Bradley Powers and Emersyn Powers.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Dewayne Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.
