Shawn Andrew Stephens, 36, of Madison, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in Madison.

He was born Sept. 10, 1971, in Indianapolis, the son of Rocky and Carol Phillips Stephens. He worked in construction and served in the U.S. Army during the first Persian Gulf War. He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and all of nature. He also enjoyed football, basketball and baseball and played all three in high school.

He is survived by three sons, Shawn A. Stephens II, Tyler Stephens and Colby Stephens, all of Port Richey, Fla.; his parents, of Madison; two brothers, Kyle Stephens and Cory Stephens, both of Madison; and his paternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Stephens of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nathan and Georgia Phillips; his great-grandparents, Gilbert and Elsie Bender, and Steve and Vera Stephens; one aunt; and one uncle.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vail-Holt Funeral Homes Hilltop Chapel. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by Fort Campbell Military Base.
