Williams, Fred A., of Midlothian Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 6th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Rudolph Williams, as well as his brother Ollie Williams. Fred is survived by his wife of 53 years Martha Williams, his children Jennifer and Joshua Williams, and his grandchildren Alayna, Taylor and Tyler Williams, as well as a network of extended family and friends.
Captain Fred A. Williams served in the US Navy for 26 years in the Supply Corp. His career in the Navy led him on many adventures across the globe, including serving his country during the Viet Nam War. His career achievements were plentiful, but none more prized than being the first officer selected to the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), while it was still under construction at Newport News Shipbuilding.
His assignment to the Theodore Roosevelt led Fred to the Hampton Roads area, which would serve as the primary location where he would raise his family. His career and family flourished in this region for nearly two decades, and upon retirement he relocated to Midlothian, Va. to be close to his grandchildren.
Fred had various hobbies that included hunting, fishing and spending time with his beloved family. No hobby was more important than making sure that Martha was taken care of at all times. Jennifer's acceptance into the University of Virginia opened the door for hundreds of trips to UVA football, basketball and baseball games, which he enjoyed immensely from his first game in 1989, until his last on October 19th, 2019. Josh's football career led to him Randolph-Macon College, where Fred and Martha never missed a game from 1996 through 1999.
After retirement, the arrival of Fred's grandchildren became a primary focus in his life. Alayna Williams (14) first made him a grandfather, followed by Taylor (12) and Tyler (9). He made each of them feel special by participating in interests of theirs, while also working to instill in them with the values that made him such an honorable man.
Fred's family will receive visitors on Friday January 15, 2021 beginning at 3PM. The viewing will be followed by a funeral service at 4PM at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy, Chesterfield, Va. 23832. He will finally be laid to rest at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would suggest donations to the American Diabetes Association, Diabetes.org/donate.Capt US Navy

Interment on April 23, 2021.
