Our beloved Howard Morris Turner was born on August 10, 1938 to the late Wesley and Ida Turner in Gambrills, Maryland. He was called home to rest on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Howard was educated in the Anne Arundel County Public School System. After completing his education, he worked various jobs. He was an extremely hard worker and was employed as a cook, delivered milk, worked as part of work crews. In addition, he drove concrete trucks, snowplows, loaders, refuse trucks, commercial vehicles, and other larger machinery, and supervised Street Maintenance. Employers included Ernie Gardner, A.A. Drywell, Bartons, and City of Bowie, among others. He retired from a career at the City of Bowie after 40 years.

Early on, Howard received his formal religious training at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Crownsville, Maryland and in later years, he attended Holy Family Catholic Church. In addition, Howard was a long-time member of the Landmark Lodge No. 40 of the Prince Hall Freemasons of MD.

Howard’s favorite pastimes included attending his vegetable and flower gardens, raising livestock, and watching ‘shoot ‘em up’ westerns. He enjoyed listening to WTOP on his transistor radio. He liked to swing his wife around the dancefloor to music especially from the 50s and 60s. He was devoted to his family, friends, and neighbors. He generously shared his garden bounty and fresh eggs, cuts of meat from the hogs harvests, and snowplowed neighbors driveways unprompted.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Turner, son Howard Maurice Turner, and the following siblings: James Wesley Turner, Pauline Butler, John Turner, Anna Conway, Rose Mitchell, Charles Turner, William Turner, Daisy Turner, and Joseph Turner.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: one son Ralph Turner of Crofton, MD; two daughters Renee Chittams (William) of Lanham, MD, and Loretta Kestler (Robert) of New Bern, NC; three grandchildren: Duron Butcher of Raleigh, NC, Nicole Chittams of Laurel, MD , and Anthony Kestler of New Bern, NC. He also leaves to mourn one brother-in-law, Ellsworth Harris (Christine), a sister-in-law Ileana Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
