A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Reverend Dr. Willie B Franklin was born the oldest of fourteen children to the late Mr. Johnnie Franklin, Sr., and Mrs. Lacy Shed Franklin, who referred to him as Willie B. Just like Enoch who had great faith and was taken by God when he died. And just like Moses who led the Israelites to the promise land and was covered by God’s hand when he died. Like Elijah who performed 8 miracles and went to heaven in a chariot of fire. Willie B was quietly taken by God to be with Him in heaven on January 6, 2021.

At a young age, Willie B worked to help take care of his family. His love for his family was just short of his love for God. He accepted God after a pleading from his wife, Thelma and his faith never wavered. Many times, he didn’t have food, transportation nor decent clothing, but he was never late for work and he didn’t miss a shift. He worked in the cotton fields, at a grocery store, in a manufacturing company, he was in the military, civil service, for the city and retired several times. As Sargent Franklin, he served as a Chaplin while deployed in the Persian Gulf War. But if you asked him where his success lies he would say, “In Christ”. Willie B always said that God took care of him throughout his life and “God don’t care no more for me than he does for anybody else”.

Reverend Dr. Willie B Franklin wanted simply to be called Willie, but he accepted Pastor or Reverend as titles. He completed his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees all by scholarship from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He served as deacon and was eventually ordained at Union Hill C.P.C.A., under the leadership of the late Pastor McKinley Jones, Jr. He went on and served as a spiritual leader in bible studies, prison ministries, the military as a chaplain and in the individual lives of many. He pastored True Victory Baptist Church in North Pole, Alaska and Little Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Triana, Alabama.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma J. Franklin; daughter, Yvonne A. Franklin; stepdaughter, Andrea ‘Ann’ Tapscott Russell; brothers: James Franklin, Johnnie ‘Jr’ Franklin, Walter ‘T’ Franklin, Harold Franklin, and Wesley ‘Butch’ Franklin; sisters: Katherine McCaulley and Fannie Mae Garner.

Reverend Dr. Willie B Franklin is survived by his wife, Reverend Dr. Carol Cain-Franklin, his children: Dalphne Franklin Abernathy (Cecil), Willajean Watts (Walter, Jr.), Teresa Collins (Seth), and David W. Franklin (Rebekah); stepchildren: Adrienne Hines (Michael), Kenyata Jones (Sean), and Brandon Cain; his brothers: Dexter Franklin (Patricia) and Ronald Franklin; his sisters: Sherry Coleman (Timothy) and Donna Hereford (Alonzo); a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
