Warner Robins, GA – James Jeffrey Akin, 61, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Houston Medical Center. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. A private ceremony for family will also be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with Reverend Jim Cowart officiating. Flowers may be sent to Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Go Dogs Go Rescue, Inc.
Jeff was born on April 1, 1959 in Marietta, GA to James Wyndell Akin and the late Patsy (Maxwell) Akin. He graduated from Rome High School, attended West Point Military Academy, and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1996. He was employed with Robins Air Force Base as a contract officer. Jeff was a member of Harvest Methodist Church, and served in the parking ministry in past years. He was a faithful Auburn Tigers football fan, and enjoyed attending games with his life-long Auburn friends. Jeff loved grilling for family and friends, and was especially known for his delicious BBQ.
He enjoyed a wide variety of music, and collected playlists of different and unique artists. Jeff was very active with his sons' activities through the years, from coaching little league sports to being a member of the Houston County High School Boosters Club, where he served as President from 2018-2020. He was an active supporter of Go Dogs Go Rescue, Inc., fostering and training dogs that were waiting for their forever homes. Jeff will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 26 years, Sherry (Barrett) Akin of Warner Robins; sons: James Tyler Akin and Jeffrey Scott Akin, both of Warner Robins; sister: Ann Akin Parker of Fayetteville; brother: David Andrew Akin of Rome; mother-in-law: Julia Ann Glass of Pell City, AL; brother-in-law: Jerald Barrett (Sandy) of Hendersonville, TN; sister-in-law: Meri Beth Johnson (Jeff) of Yorba Linda, CA; nieces: Hannah and Rachel Parker and Lily Adams; nephews: Will and Tanner Barrett. With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
