Tulare - It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Cochran announces her passing on Thursday, December 31, 2020 due to Covid-19. Barbara was born September 12, 1928 in Exeter, California to Charles Newton Smart and Pearl Edith (Leach) Smart. She was raised in Lemoncove, California with her siblings, Louise, Vivian, Bill and Jackie and loved sharing all of her happy childhood memories from this loving community. She graduated from Exeter High School in 1946. Shortly after graduation she married her best friend Billie (Cochran) Ruminer's brother Ben G Cochran on October 16, 1946 in Visalia, California. She spent her life in Tulare as a wife and homemaker raising two daughters, Sharon and Debbie. She was involved with every part of their lives. She was a great cook and an avid seamstress making her own and her daughter's clothes and even occasionally doll clothes. She was a faithful member of the First Church of God for 57 years where she made many good friends. In retirement she and husband Ben loved traveling in their RV with friends. They enjoyed many wonderful trips. They loved playing cards, Skip-Bo and Dominos. After Ben's passing in 2010 she spent several years at Twin Oaks Assisted Living where she enjoyed meeting new friends. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and shopping with these new friends. Barbara was preceded in death by husband, Ben G Cochran in 2010 and son-in-law Larry Van Fossen in 2017. She leaves behind two daughters Sharon Gimlin (Jerry) and Debbie Van Fossen, grandsons Brian Gimlin and Brett Gimlin (Heather) and two great grand children Avery and Ryan Gimlin and her sister Jackie Campbell. We would like to thank the staff at Twin Oaks Assisted Living for all their loving care. Rosie, thank you for always keeping her hair beautiful. Thank you Twin Oaks Skilled Nursing staff for your outstanding care until her recent passing. Thank your Mary (Visiting Angel) for always bringing a smile to her face. Barbara was a gentle soul, loving wife and mother and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. Her wonderful smile and giving nature will be missed. God bless and keep you Mom until we meet again. Funeral service will be a private family gathering. Condolences can be sent to www.plfuneral.com. Services are in the care Peers-Lorentzen Funeral Service
