Katherine was born September 1, 1940 in Arlington, Texas and was a resident of Euless until she moved with her family to Haltom City. She was a graduate of Birdville High School where she was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1957.
Katherine met her loving husband Ray Short on a blind date and a year and a half later they were married in 1962. They spent 59 loving years together. They were blessed with two children, Greg and Traci, and 4 grandchildren, Mitchell, Katy, Nikki and Mandi. Katherine spent many years working in HR. She began her career at Southwestern Bell, then moved with her family to Denver, Colorado where she worked for AT&T. She decided to take an early retirement in 1990 when she and her family moved to Tucson, Arizona.
Eventually their family made their way back to Texas in 1993 and that is where they planted their roots. Katherine’s church home was New World United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted member for many years. Katherine passed away Monday, November 30, 2020.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon R. Fitch and Liza Fitch.
She is survived by her husband Ray Short, son Greg Short, daughter Traci Singer, grandchildren Katy Short, Nikki Singer, Mitchell Short and Mandi Woods, brother-in-law Joe Steele, nieces and nephews and her closest friends Jeanie Adams, Marilyn Mays and Jane Buehler. Kathy loved her slot machines! But even more than that, she loved her family. She dedicated her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a kind and giving person, and she had a life well lived. She will be very missed.
