Mr. Roy Lee Simmons, 76, of Mt. Airy, went to be with his Heavenly Father, January 7, 2020. He was born in Surry County, September 21, 1944, to the late James Monroe and Lissie Susan Harold Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a kind, gentle man that had a strong love for his family and friends. He farmed throughout his life while working as a carpenter, building homes including his own. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Paul Watson, Tracy and Rory Lewellyn, Jr.; grandchildren, Alli Lewellyn, Cara Lewellyn, Ethan Watson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Chilton, Julia and Gray Peele, Brenda and Dwight Atkins; brothers and sister-in-law, Bud and Barbara Simmons, and Tommy and Katie Simmons; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a sister, Betty McHone; and a brother, Joe Simmons. Due to current health concerns, services will be private. Anyone is welcomed to go to Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, to pay their respect, Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The family would like to express their gratitude for the love, compassion, and care shown by the hospice team, Amy Poindexter, FNP, April Badger, RN, Mike Fields, CNA, and Dr. Jonathan Casstevens, Chaplain. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
