Burlin Junior “B.J.” Roberts passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Rowlett, Texas. He was born February 1, 1936 in Point, Texas to Burlin Eugene and Nellie May (Akins) Roberts. He was 84 years of age.

B. J. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1955 to December 1957. He married the love of his life, Margaret Louise Horton, in Clarksville, Texas. He worked for Jones Blair Paint Company in Dallas from February 1958 until July 1973. Then, he went to work as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in July 2000. Since then, in his own words, he “mostly just loafed.”

B. J. was a life member of the VFW and a member of Edgemont Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burlin Roberts, in 1975; his mother, Nellie Roberts, in 1993; four brothers, Harold Ray Roberts (1970), James L. “Dock” Roberts (2006), Eugene Roberts (2014), and Billy Roberts (2016); four sisters, Joyce Hudson (1960), Thelma Cook (2005), Helen Helm (2014, and Geneva Fields (2018); and finally by his dear wife, Louise Roberts (2020).

He leaves behind to cherish his memory three devoted sons, Terry Don Roberts and wife Michelle, Ronnie Roberts and wife Kathy, and Jeffrey Roberts; a beautiful daughter, Doy Roberts; four wonderful grandsons, Jeremy Roberts and wife Katy, Justin Roberts and wife Cheryl, Tas Roberts and wife Erica, Micah Roberts and wife Caitlin; great-grandchildren, Heidi, Luke, Holly, Avery, Madlyn, Emma, and Ethan; two brothers, Johnny Roberts and Clarence Roberts; four sisters, Donnie Strebeck, Shirley Gavin, Betty Morrow, and Judy Carson; a number of other extended family members and close friends.

Services for B. J. will take place Monday, January 25, 2021 at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home located at 12649 Lake June Road, Mesquite, Texas 75180. The family will begin receiving friends at 12:30 p.m. The service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Ted Kiser will officiate. Following the service, there will be a short procession to Laurel Oaks Memorial Park for a brief committal service in the Garden of the Cross. Jack Horton, Clarence Roberts, Jeremy Roberts, Johnny Roberts, Justin Roberts, and Taslow Roberts will serve as pallbearers.

Laurel Oaks Funeral Home is honored to serve this family.
