Born in Gratiot, MI, he was the son of the late Clarence and Esther Collins Husted.
After graduating from Alma High School in Michigan, he honorably served for six years in the US Navy aboard the USS Forrestal as a court reporter. He later received his associate's degree in Michigan and relocated to Tampa, Florida. He began his thirty year career as an endoscopy technician at University Community Hospital.
In 1987 he and Suellyn married in Florida and the couple moved to the Upstate in 2008. During his retirement, he enjoyed working part time at the Fresh Market. He was a kind and gentle man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In service to his Lord, Gary volunteered on many CWE mission trips in several foregin countries as a cook along side his wife Suellyn. He was a valued member of Cornerstone Baptist Church for the past ten years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Suellyn Collins Husted; two sisters, Vera Ward and Wilma Wood; a sister-in-law, Shirley Husted; a brother-in-law, Keith Priest; Suellyn's daughter, Megan (Ryan) Andrews and a granddaughter, Peyton Andrews; three sisters-in-law, Debbie Slick, Lana (Fred) Pachter, and Pam (Bob) Levan. Gary also leaves a host of relatives and friends including numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Velma Priest and Dale Husted; and a brother-in-law, Gayland Slick.
